Hi! I'm a new member - just at the stage of looking for a bay window van to buy.

We've seen a 1978 Westie imported from California which we're interested in but it has the gas supply under the floor which apparently you get re-filled with LPG at petrol stations. Does anyone know anything about this way of storing gas? Is it safe? Reliable? Can anyone suggest someone who could check it over for us?

Thanks - looking forward to becoming an active member of the VW community very soon!

Not sure about the earlier versions, but our 1987 Westfalia has one of these tanks. Take a look on the GoWesty website to see if your is the same as advertised on there.

The only problem with the American tank is the nozzle - it's American (screw on). You will have to get a bayonet adapter for the UK or change the existing nozzle (I would say preferrable).

With regards to checking it over, there are number of estbalishments and I guess this will depend upon where in the country you live.

The plus side of this tank would be capacity - ours lasts us a month or more. The downside is the nozzle issue and the fact I am told we cannot use the Chunnel.

I'm also new to this - I have a 1989 German Import Westfalia T25, and I'm living in Ireland. Been unable to find anywhere to top up, because they don't have the adaptors to fit. Firstly, I need to know what the adaptor is called, so I can order one, and secondly, I need to know where I can get hold of one!
All help, will of course, be appreciated!
