First post. Hurrah!

Have got to share this with other people as my girlfriend is getting tired of me talking about it constantly! Really. Bought My 78 Bay early summer, needed a bit more work than i first thought. Anyway to cut a long story short, I was let down by a garage who said they would do the welding that needed doing for me. 4 months after I gave it him not a thing had been done (and it looked as if someone was sleeping in her in his yard!!!). Needless to say i drove off with it (or tried my hardest too anyway, took 3 miles to hit 50 and was rewarded with a backfire that made me jump almost into the passanger seat!) to a garage with a proven history of good resto work. 3 weeks later, all welding done, some engine tuning, a quick shift and a new gear linkage i am driving around in it! All be it in the pouring rain and at the end of the sunshine season but i love it! next, prep and respray. Ideas welcome. I just had to tell someone. This is Wynnie: :)

Thanks Allan! You are right about the weather, have just been to get her on my lunch hour even though it is miserable out there. Put a smile on my face though!
Why did you sell!? :) Perfect time to start looking again? for next summer? ;)

I am having wynnie resprayed over christmas (hopefully) and I am really struggling to choose a colour. I like dove blue, i know it is not the correct colour for the year, does that matter?

Also, i have been finding buses on the' interweb' saying they are dove blue but look miles apart! has anyone got a dove blue bus they can post for me to see? I also like the idea of Mexico Beige (correct colour for age, i think) Anyone? I am open to any colour suggestions. Please help!

Why did I sell it? I keep asking myself the same question. I had it for about 6 years, loved every minute of it and it never let me down. We toured all over France and the UK and had a great time and made loads of friends with VW buses everywhere.

I think if i was respraying yours I would keep it the same or go for pale blue. My first bus was pale blue and white, looked great, last one was Dakota Beige. Nice colour but looked a little dull compared to the brighter vans around, but I suppose it matched the brown and orange interior. Avatar shows my van in France near St Malo, about 1998.

I will be looking for a new 4 or 5 berth van sometime next month. Prices for some seem ridiculously high, theres lots of rip off merchants about, but if you look around there are still some nice ones at reasonable prices. I just have to sell my car and start looking!

We plan to travel to south France next summer! Ending up in Carcassone for a few days then back up. It has given me a deadline to get things sorted on her. I do like pale blue, could be an option, Thanks! Any picks of DOVE BLUE anyone?

I was quite lucky when buying Wynnie, she was parked up on a driveway next a friends house. I must have passed her 3 or 4 times before i actually decided to knock on door. Was a lot cheaper than i thought it would be, but, didn't realise how much welding was needed until the man at the garage put a hammer though the body with ease! So, made sense why it was cheaper than i expected. Will thoroughly check next time!

We went to Carcassonne this year, my sister has a house in Roulenz, a few miles south. We stayed at a site between Narbonne and Carcassonne. Beautiful scenery down there, lots of vines and good places to try a bit of tasting. Try and get a pitch at Narbonne plage, better still, try some wild camping, we saw lots of people doing it, though, unfortunately, we were in a tent so had to stick to sites!

I`ll look for Dove blue for you.

Thanks Allan, this is exactly the colour, but see what i mean about the differences between so called Dove Blue! We went to Narbonne Plage, nice place!

Wynnie is having her engine sorted next week (Electronic Ignition, Flame Thrower Coil and leads, new fuel lines, new Alt stand, crackshaft oil seal). One step further to get her to Carcassonne! Then hopefully being sprayed over Christmas. Thinking of having a very similar colour to Dove Blue but slightly more grey (sounds dull i know). Thanks again Allan thats a big help.
