Interior lighting problem

Hi,I have just bought a 1978 S reg LT Devon camper conversion.My problem is with the interior lighting.It only seems to work with the ignition switched on.I have tried various setting on the SC unit but to no avail.Has anybody any ideas if this should be so or is something wrong or something I have missed ?
