Thanks to previous answers I'm getting closer to sourcing the bus that would suit me. I'm currently looking at an S registered camper that has had an extensive bare metal resto, plus a few 'modernisations' to the interior and customisations to the mechanical side such as lowering, wheels etc.

Obviously this means I'm possibly going to be spending considerably more than I intended to, but you get what you pay for (or so they say!).

On to the question - this one does not have a pop-top roof. Apart from the obvious space issue does anyone have anything to chip in? It would suit me a little better for ease of getting in/out the garage. Anyone know any other pro's/cons? I suppose a bus is always worth whatever someone will pay for it, but do these conversions generally hold less value?

Cheers.

we have grown up a family with a fixed roof bus
downside..backache from stooping
plus side..no leaks or condensation
no difference in value (or saleability unless someone definitely wants one or not)
get the bus you want...and you bcan always turn either sort into a nice sliding sunroof one day if you wanted!

I've previously owned 3 pop-top buses, but now have a solid roof. I like the simplicity of it's looks, although my roof needs repairs. I do have a Goldie ragtop sunroof, if I ever get round to it.

I don't think there is much financial preference. It is a personal choice.

But, a clean very late Bay? (S) with a solid roof may actually be more desirable , as generally I only see pop-tops of this age?

aerodynamics?? must make a difference of a few tenths on the quarter mile :D

actually, i think mrsherbie has a point, i know lots of people that would much rather have a stock roof generally because they look so much tidier. i'm sure i'll be shot down for saying it but there's nothing uglier than a late westy roof, if aesthetics are your thing!

personally, i find my pop-top useful but wouldn't consider it essential. i do, however, recall constantly moaning about my old fixed roof type 25! if you plan on cooking etc. inside, you need a pop-top. if all you're going to do is sleep in it (and bbq outside), fixed roof is fine

Mines a fixed roof, and though I do sometimes moan about headroom, after 11 years, Im still not tempted to cut any holes.
