As a newbie first i must introduce myself as it is only polite to do so, my name is Dougie i am a 43 yr old male that lives in Loch Lomondside in Scotland, in the past having owned many VW's of differing models from Golfs to caddys and Polos the last being a 3-in-1 dismountable camper designed around a caddy pick up truck so i am well used to their reliability and soundness however having never owned nor driven a t3/t25 which is what im now considering thus i am here to ask some advise.
Currently i drive a selfbuilt Ducato Lwb Hitop camper conversion and a new shape Senic 7 seater.
I am thinking seriously of now doing away with the Ducato and swapping it for a T3 or T25 model as yet unknown but the big question is whether to selfbuild again or whether to buy a factory unit ?.
What i really want to know is what works and what doesnt in this range as having not owned nor driven one i would not know .
I would prefer a deisel for economy and reliability so what engine is more preferable dont want to go mega fast rather have more economy than speed so which one is best ?
If factory unit which is the plushiest, best equipped and most useable model, [one consideration in this is it would have to have captains seats and an eisberg heater fitted as standard, i would rather i think have a pop top as it would also be my daily driver i think so easier to use day to day i would think.
Has anyone completed a selfbuilt project on a T3 T25 model if so do you have any plans, specs, diagrams, parts lists and photos or links to personal sites to let me see what can be done.
I intend once a suitable replacement can be sourced after my Ducato is sold of course details at http://www.freewebs.com/expertbuild [not currently for sale however] touring for about 6 months around the Uk in my VW which is a major consideration in the end layout and fitment of the van .
What would also be of assistance is links to accessory retailers specifically or otherwise for all the fancy parts new or secondhand for these vans as i would want a good few of the fancy parts eg roofrack, side steps, bullbars, alloys cyclerack, raer ladder a-bar etc etc and a supplier for the external sunvisor seenon some models and a bodykit.
Lastly if anyone has selfbuilt any of the accessories above and has plans, specs parts lists or photos or a personal website giving details of same i would love to hear from you, i am further seeking as research for our trip wild-camping spots that are secure and a s safe as can be all around the Uk so any details of any anywhere would be good along with we intend to casually work our way around on our tour fruit picking or doing something similar any details of where and when we would be likely to find such oppurtunities would be most helpfull as well.
I trust my first post is not to lenghty and i will receive some replies all of which will be answered.
For now
