Hi
I've recently bought a T25 Camper Van with pop-top roof. It has a 1900cc 5 speed watercooled engine. The problem I have is top speed on the motorway is 55mph (foot to the floor), and going up hills it has now torque atall? Can you tell me, is this the norm with these vans or does it sound like I need a new engine?
I've had a mechanic look at and he's adjusted the timing, the fuel/air mix on the carburettor and the throttle cable. None of this has helped?
I've recently changed the oil and filter too and now I'm not sure what to do next?

Any help really appreciated.

kind regards
Steve

Hi Steve.

That doesn't sound right to me. Met a family this summer with a 1.9 Petrol engine & theirs managed to shift OK. Manaed to cruise at 60 at least. Never saw it go up a steep hill, mind.

If my 1.6TD engine will push my T25 at 65/70, then yours should too.

I will confirm that going up steep hills in my T25 I end up doing 45/50mph.

For a more useful reply than this, have you tried the forum at Club80-90 or the Brickyard? They are T25 specific & some professional T25 specialists post there.

What was your mechanic's verdict? I'd have thought that if it's running OK & he's taken a look, then the engine itself should be fine.
