Weber 34 ict/h

First of all - I am a visitor here - I actualy have a1981 bedford cf camper BUT i use the same type of carburettor as a lot of you - my question is this - the fuel cut off solenoid valve in my weber 34 ich/t (manual choke) carb is dead - it doesn't close - could this be the cause of poor hot starting - the rest of the time it runs sweet as a nut even though thereis no wire connected to the solenoid.

Sorry, I know it's not VW related but am after some advice.
