I went to vanfest on Saturday ...and ohhhhh baby what a shock i had when going round the for sales area!!!!!! Did most of the sellers give out rose tinted glasses to look at the vans, campers and alike ! I understand the values of "its as rare as rocking horse pooh," (but not the i want £7000 coz its a split and needs a scaffolding tower to keep it together ) I saw complete basket cases going for £5500 no MOT no TAX (although its free ) What hope have we got of ever owning a split with prices like that?
Bay window campers were just as bad ...£ 14000 for a bay in good condition , im not saying all the campers were over priced ( in my eyes ) but it seems long gone are the days of cult motoring on the cheap ( which is one of the reasons i drive one ) but surely things cant of got so bad that the prices far out weigh the supply not after seeing soooooooo many campers

Still the people never seem to change other than they get more and more friendly which after all is why i loved the show so much .....( i just wonder if all those smiling faces were due to the fact they just sold there camper , van or pick up ;) )

I know what you mean completely. Me and my girlfriend went to Vanfest to have a look and see whats available, as we are after a 'new' camper. When we went through the sales area, bearing in mind that we have around £5,000 to spend, when we saw the prices my girlfriend nearly had a heart attack and most of my hopes of getting a decent bay flew straight out of Molvern and back down the M5.

Lots of rusty junk there, but also some decent bays at good money, as long as you dont mind lhd.
The german ex disaster vehicles in bright orange were perfect at £6kish, and I saw a solid Westy, a German import, also for £6k.
Reasonably priced stuff is about, but like Mel B's book - 'Youve just got to look for it!'

Agreed that Vanfest was a little disheartening for a couple searching for there very first van after a period of heavy saving. But at least it provided us with the opportunity to compare and contrast real vans (as opposed to pictures of ....)
Have decided that there is a certain amount of both luck and risk involved. The question is do you buy the (apparent) best van you can possibly afford or one that is appears to be mechanically & structurally strong with a 12 month MOT, but retain £1000'ish back for any basic necessary work?

What about eBay- has anyone brought or sold a Van using it. Opinions please?
