Can anyone please advise me on why my van keeps cutting out.
It's a 1974 1800cc Auto, seems to drive ok from cold but once up to temp the engine dies. This happens when you slow down or stop at a junction/roundabout, it starts up again but have to try and keep revs up (which is tricky with auto box) to keep it going. Also very hot in engine bay.

Sorry this has taken so long - I've only just joined here.
My 1979 2L auto has exactly the same problem - it can be tricky trying to feather the throttle to avoid cutting out and causing gridlock, especially if you've got a big roundabout or nasty right turn in the first mile of your journey!
If you've got a single Weber carb, it could be icing up, so when the choke drops out, the carb can't operate correctly to provide the right mixture. I have spoken to someone who says he had the same problem on an auto until he ditched the single Weber and fitted twin carbs. It doesn't have to be cold outside for the carb to ice up - it's to do with the speed of the air coming in. If you've got a different carb setup, I really don't know, unless adjusting timing or mixture can cure it. If it is ice, then it should get better in the next month or so.
If you run the engine for a few minutes, switch it off for 2 or 3 mins, then back on, it should perform better in the first mile or two.
Incidentally, since putting my old 009 dissy back on (the vacuum dissy was pretty seized up) it seems to keep going better at those tricky junctions.
Just need to get some Dells now!
Cheers :)
PS if you've found out anything else about the problem since you posted this, please let me know!
