Tappets and timing

Does any body know weather you can set the valve clearances by 9 like normal or is there another way? its says in issue two of C&C that Total VW issue 17 shows how someone must have read it or have a copy!
I have an 1800 type two, Finding parts is a right b**h any body know why?
Please Please Please HELP i missed Vanfest and don t want to miss brighton breeze I ve been to hell and back and its oilly!! :rolleyes:
