Hi!

Great forum by the way!

I have recently bought a 1990 caravelle 2.1 auto and I love it!

I have two problems with it:

1. the heater isnīt very good ( living in Finland its quite important to me! :D )
The blower for the dash vents works ok but only pushes out very mildly warm air. The blower that should come from under the dash doesnīt work at all.
Any ideas?

2. It seems to be VERY heavy on fuel...i realise that a 2.1 auto isnīt going to be great but i seem to be getting around 50 miles for 13-14 quid. Is this normal?

Other than that I love the thing...its great to drive and I recently drove it over 2000 miles up to the artic circle and it was great.

Thanks guys

Gareth

I too have a 2.1 Caravelle and also experienced engine problems. Although I cannot suggest a reason why your van is playing up, I suggest you go to www.club80-90.co.uk, register with them and then post your problem on the technical forum. Someone on there is bound to help. Best of luck ! :D

Thanks Beetlecrusher!

I think I will do just that!

Although i sussed out both problems after a day of crawling around underneath the van.

Turns out that the fuel pump itself was to blame for the leaking petrol...one new fuel pump later and problem solved. It even runs better now as i guess all the fuel is now at least making it to the engine and not the floor!

The heater problem was traced to a broken flexible hose which runs from the back to the front, underneath. Seems it must be a common problem as it is awfully exposed to stones from the road. Now i could toast marshmallows on the heater vent! It will be greatly appreciated when the winter bring its minus 25 degrees along!!

Anyway...thanks again for the advice. If there is anything i might be able to help with...let me know! :D
