Hi again!

I am thinking of putting rear seats into my caravelle and was wondering if anyone knew what the seat belt requirements are?

What I really want to know is...if its a three person bench seat, can i get away with using three lap belts or do they have to be of the inertia reel type?

Thanks again

Gareth

Hi Gareth,

Did you ever manage to find any information on this? I am in the process of buying a camper and I have four children to ferry around. So I thought that it may be an idea to get seatbelts fitted in the rear. Let me know if you managed to get anywhere.

Regards

Brian

I am also looking at putting a bench seat in the back of my baywindow camper. I was looking at the rock and roll bed and there appears to be two types. one with a metal frame and one with just metal hindges and no frame as such.

I wondered which or if both were legal to use as a bench in transit with lap belts or a diffent type of belt?

Cheers.

Sam.

Depending on the age of the vehicle, you probably dont actually 'need' any, from a legal perspective.

Type 2 Kombis will have mountings in place, so are easy to fit. Ex panel vans wont, so you'll need to get mounts welded in. Ive done this in mine for a child seat, and is easy, however, lap belts are best, from a cosmetic angle.

Caravelle seat belts are seat mounted in mine, but Ill wager that there will be chassis mountings there, somewhere?
