Can anyone tell me if they have upgraded their ignition system with the pertronix ignitor and flame thrower coil as featured in the volksworld (dec )issue. would you advise doing it how much difference does it make?

I am having running problems at the moment, when i first try to start van turns over very slowly ( new battery fitted )and eventually fires up then when gas is given to try to warm up it back fires and cuts out a lot when slowing down, stopping on traffic, ( i have fitted an IMDU doesnt seem to help so far ).would the starter moter cause the engine to turn over slowly as once the van warms up a bit it turns over normally ,is there any way to check it?

Thanks for looking,
( roll on the summer !!! )

Pertronix kits should be made the law for VW engines. They are great ... fit and forget, with no more worries.
The coil may help, but with not so much impact. Just a new Bosche blue coil will be a benefit, if youre running an old original.

If the stater works then try changing the brass bush that is fitted in the gearbox bellhousing (where the starter shaft goes through). If this is worn, it can cause lazy starter symptoms.

The running problems may just need a service and tune up to cure?

I fitted the Pertronix ignition upgrade just over a month ago and the difference was remarkable! Dead easy to fit with the simple instructions supplied. Runs so much smoother than before fitting.

Highly recomended!
