i know i should be outside stripping threads and shearing studs but i just can't help myself... so here we go, the definitive euro 2004 predictions thread from a darkened spare room, although i will lose my internet access sometime before the quarter finals... probably have gone pear shaped by then anyway.

portugal - greece ?

opening games have a habit of being dull, but i smell goals in the air tonight, and spain are notoriously terrified early on, so i'm plumping for this game having a few... portugal as hosts with a partizan crowd, early goal blah blah blah but on their day they can tear teams apart, and that's enough cliches for now.

3-1 portugal.

spain - russia ?

as above... i'd normally fancy spain to get a hatful, esp. against a patched up russian defence ; what will probably happen is they'll score, get really scared about conceding, throw everyone behind the ball, and grab a scrambled second late on, maybe via raul's nose ?

2-0 spain.

same again this time tomorrow ; flywheel nut notwithstanding...

If youre that interested in footy, why dont you play it instead of just talking/typing about it on a computer?
Sat there, in your nylon shirt, with your ball-unkicked designer trainers underneath your Ikea computer desk?
Quick! Get outside! The wind may have dislodged youre St George Cross flag on your car! but dont be too long ...... we dont want youre pie going cold!

Football schmootball. This is a VW Camper site.

:chucklingquietly:

the concept of something becoming dislodged and falling somewhere it shouldn't is almost too uncanny to type about... so i wont...

a somewhat mixed bag of results yesterday... seems like it's only me & clem reading this so not too disappointing then... portugal were rubbish, and lived up to the dismal opening performance scenario... a couple more inches of raul nose and we could have been in business though, although he'd probably be in the circus in that case ?

england expects... me to come back on here at about quarter to five tonight... more news on project O too

the silence is deafening... although with project O successfully completed and the 'big' kick-off just hours away, i don't care.

switzerland - croatia ?

hmm, we're due a draw, but not tonight... one of these games i'm going to buck the obvious but not here... narrow croatia victory and most of england outside in the garden burning meat, drinking cold but still weak lager and not generally giving a toss.

1-0 croatia.

france - england ?

despite rumours to the contrary, i'm not a crazed cross of st. george waving patriot, but i've a good feeling about this tournament... all our 'big' names are due a good one, david seaman has retired and eriksson and houllier have simultaneously seen sense, and relegated big emile to the also-rans... cue heskey in the starting line-up, and a swashbuckling 2 goal display. can't see it happening myself... it has to be owen.

1-0 england.

back to the garage...

Yeah, 1-0 to England, but, hey, thats just allowing for a 90 minute game, huh?

How naive of you .......

Best get back to the real issues, Id suggest.

Yeah. If more people had voted UKIP or BNP and shown more genuine pride, the maybe our 'boys', the ones fighting abroad, might had had more spirit.
Thats the ones in Portugal, btw.

After all, it seems the war (in Iraq) is now over. It hasnt been on the news since, oh the weekend! Odd that........

a war ? in iraq ? with our reputation ?

etc. etc.

my predictions are rubbish and my gosh don't i just know it.

holland - germany ?

crivens, the history between these two sides, nay, nations... you always want the dutch to win but germany usually end up having the last laugh, except in... no, don't go there.

1-1 i guess.

czech rep. - latvia ?

if the czechs don't win this i'll give up, although i've only got another week's access anyway so who cares ? nobody on here i'd wager. nedved to star, and milan baros to come of age on the big stage, and force his way into the starting eleven at liverpool... cue breaking of ankles etc. :(

four nil ?

Clem,

If you haven't managed to sell your flag yet, you can always write Tim Henman on it and it may last at least another day or two ;)
