Ignition coil question

Hi,

We have a 78 1600 Type 2, its running fine. I'm just getting it ready for our first camping trip at Easter and whilst working in the engine bay noticed that the coil is very hot to touch. The engine had been run only for about 5 minutes and that (along with the exhausts) were quite cool to touch. Is the hot coil normal or should I get it replaced?

Any help is appreciated.

Ive never noticed mine being that hot that quickly. Replacements are cheap enough, so try it out, Id say.

Thanks for that - I think I probably will swap it just to be on the safe side.
I had a look on Just Kampers and they list a 'Bosch Blue coil' but they don't specify a model/year etc - are they all the same? (e.g. so will this one be ok on my bus?)
