Hi

I'm thinking of buying a bay window camper, hopefully with out a pop top.
Now this is my question: can I get it below 6' 2" overall height? So it'll fit in my garage. How much does lowering cost? Would this be radical lowering or just minor?

any help greatly appreciated, Joe

Mines a non-pop top van, and had been lowered about 4-5 inches ... quite mild really.
It fits in my standard garage, with an up and over door quite easily (its the garage length that counts if you have this kind of door).
For a basic lowering job that involves adjusting the rear spring plates and cutting and welding the front beam, expect to pay between £250-£300.

Cheers for that Clem

but what is your vans overall height now?

I have heaps of length in my garage, something like 18' 6", but when the door is up only 6' 2" overhead clearance.

kind regards Joe

You may need to take care in how much you lower it. I have a devon and I lowered it 5" at the front and 2 splines at the rear to fit it in my garage, sadly when it came to MOT it failed as the front ball joints were fully loaded and the rear spring plates were sat on there stops. I raised the back 1 spline and raise the front 2.5" to get it a ticket.

Now when I take it out the garage I have about 10mm clearance and need my wife to keep an eye on it each time so it does not hit.

Not trying to be doom and gloom but hope this helps! :D
