Sorry, I know this has probably been answered 100 times before, but I can't find an answer with the search, so figured I would just ask!?
I am basically looking to buy a late 80's T3 (or T25 as they seem to be known in the UK) Westfalia or similar, and wanna know how many km's or miles I can expect to get out of a 1.6TD engine ... I am currently reckoning on an average of around 160 thousand km's (about 100K miles).
Also ... was wondering what are the commong faults on them ... cylinder heads, pistons an cylinders, crank shafts ... and what kinda money they need to be repaired, overhauled, either by myself (8 years of beetle driving taught me some tinkering skills when I was younger), or at a back street garage???

Any thoughts on my thoughts are welcomed ... and if I don't like 'em, I can always ignore 'em eh! ;)
Cheers - Damnit

You asked how long do they last? Well the 1600cc CV engine last longer. Look for blown head gasket and lots of smoke, take the diesel out and fit an 1800cc petrol. The fuel consumption will scare you but the crusing speed will make up for it. (100 k miles :( ).
