newbie question: reliable t2 motors possible?

he guys/girls,

after years of hesitation i have decided to buy a camper from VW: the older the better, but reliability of these campers is a big concern for me as I have no knowledge whatsover about campers. Maybe stupid question but is it possible to replace the old motor with another one, newer? more reliable? Sometimes you hear about complete make-overs with everything new, including high power motors. Can someone inform about the possibilities? and maybe point to some other websites.

If you check out the threads on page 2.
you will see I am fitting a peugeot 1.9 diesel in mine, I believe you can also fit a citroen onto this same adapter plate as its the same engine.
The beauty of this engine apart from the economy of a diesel and its reliability is that it has an aluminium lump so the bus sits nice and level !!!

If you have a well built and well maintained VW engine, that isnt caned constantly, then you'll (honestly) struggle to find a more reliable power source.
