Hello there,

I am new to these boards but have just recently purchased a 1965 split screen freshly imported from sunny California!
The rear of the van is a complete shell so needs completely kitting out! I am currently in my final year of a Design and Technology degree at Loughborough University, so I thought what beta idea for a final year project than looking at conversion kits for type 2 VW vans!
My basic idea to design furniture that can be flat packed and sent to buyer allowing them to create their own interiors for a fraction of the price of current interiors.
So basically I am asking for your help with a bit of user research! If anyone could take a min or two answering a few questions I would be eternally grateful!

1. Do you think there would be a market for this type of furniture, either from garages or actual owners?

2. How much do you feel people would be willing to pay?

3. What are the main things you would require in a conversion, i.e cooker, sink etc!

4. Finally would you mind if I was to email you or send private messages via this form to ask a few more questions in the future!

Thanks very much

Ant

1. yes there is a big market.
2. Depends on the quality. i for one would like to see some decent kits available in quality materials. No MDF or chipboard. I can see a lot of demand for a product that has a vintage feel with modern fixtures. Price really depends on the extent of the kit. Make one, see how much you pay for materials, then add your hours in, and it's not going to be cheap if you want a decent business out of it.
3. Personally, I look for a decent bed, while at the same time retaining the capability to seat the whole family and/or passengers in comfort and safety. Most camping trips are made to campsites with facilities, so I don't rate the need for a sink and water tank that highly. A fridge is a luxury, but not that necessary really. Storage space is good, and make sure nothing rattles.
4. no problem

Just my opinions you understand,
