Travel Plans

were planning a trip to northern spain next summer in our 1979 T2 Devon. We'd like to drive through France and over the border into San Sebastian. Has anyone got any tips on route, or where to camp either in France or Spain, any advice would be gratefully received....cheers!

we have taken our 1971 van to france three times now for our hols and we love it. For the first couple of times we avoided the toll roads to save money and cos we assumed they wouldnt be any quicker for us poddling along at 60mph however this year we tried it out and its way quicker cos you completley avoid all towns - so if your aim is to get to spain quickly i'd recommend shotting down the toll roads. Another benefit of these is the lovely services that you can stay in overnight for free. Many are pretty little grass areas with a bit of parking and you cant even hear traffic noise. We stayed at these on our way down to the south of france and to birritz the other year. If you dont wanna stay at services i'd recommend the alan rogers france guide for camping.

don't try to go and look at the big sand dune in August. We toured on motorbikes this year and ended up sleeping in a bus shelter because all along the coast was absolutley packed out. This is the reason we have returned home and bought ourselves a T2 westie, no more bus stops for me I'm getting too old. :D

I too want to take my 1988 wedgie to spain through france, can any of you guys tell me what you do for road side breakdown insurance? all the quotes i have had have been from 200-300 quid way over my budget! may be i should do a course in mechanics before i go ( i am female)
