If anyone can tell me how this is done I would really appreciate it...

What sort of wire do I use, where do I put it and what connects to what. I am only using one battery..

It depends what its for ....

If its only one or two items, then scrap the idea and use in-line fuses, if its for a number of camping items - lights, sink tap, fan, stereo, tv etc etc, then scrap the idea, and install a leisure battery first.

Seriously, tell us what you want to power, and then we'll advise.

NB. I speak in the collective sense, but I can only vouch for myself. Unless there are any self opinionated sparkys on here willing to poke their noses in?

I was going to get my lovely mechanic here in Ely to fit mains electrics and a leisure battery to my 1973 bay, but while looking round a caravan accessory shop found what is essentially an extension lead that plugs into a site's supply and then feeds through the window and can be hung up, or fitted on a tent pole. Don't have to drill any holes in my bodywork, can take it with me if I change vans (not for ages I hope, I love my baby!) I have a cool box that will run off mains or the cigarette lighter, a low wattage fan heater and kettle and so far haven't blown myself up! I realise that this information is not much use unless you camp at commercial sites... :)
Good luck,
