seeking reliable mechanic - N. London

Hi there everyone

Just joined the forum, and the VW world last week - an '86 LHD transporter syncro to take me and my g/f round the continent for 3 months.

I want to get it serviced before I go (not being terribly mechanical myself), preferably somewhere reliable near/in north London - I'm in the Islington/Stoke Newington area.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be gratefully received.

In particular, does anyone know how costly a dodgy speedo would be to fix? Speed measurement seems fine but it said a trip to York on the w/e was about 2/3 the distance back than it was there (on the same route...)

I would heartily recommend Jack's Garage in Ladbroke Grove. It's run by a Kiwi guy called Grant, and I've had nothing but great service from them on the various times I've been. I wouldn't go anywhere else, even though it's quite a trek for me from east London!
