COMMERCIALS & CAMPERS

In keeping with the magazine’s name we bring you a selection of both campers and working commercials this issue. Amongst the many and varied SO (special body) models was SO 14, a long load / pole carrying trailer designed for us with a Pick Up truck; a rare beastie and the photos of it loaded with roof trusses were inspired by an old building site picture! Brochure Line continues the SO theme with a look at a few more of these unusual body conversions. Two more working buses continue the theme, with a Bay Pick Up converted to into a twin axle Recovery / Breakdown truck and a Split Panel Van that is now a mobile DJ unit complete with lights and smoke. Both these buses were destined for the scrapyard, so it’s good to see then rescued and re-invented to continue to work for a living!A1967 former Sundial Camper, fully restored and updated, now runs around the Cotswold airport – the new owner bought it unseen over the phone whilst on holiday in New Zealand, fulfilling a long held dream. The Bay Viking featured was another long held dream - Grandad owned a Devon Moonraker from new, Dad owned a twin slider Late Bay Microbus, so it was inevitable really that the third generation would continue the tradition! This month’s T3, a 1988 Kameo Camper, was fully restored and resprayed and rebuilt under a tent on the owner’s driveway! Likewise our T4 feature is also a credit to the skills of its owners with a unique wood interior featuring a worktop live edge Ash, with bark still attached, embedded in clear epoxy resin, as well as a host of innovative design touches.A very different mix of show reports this issue from the full on bus festival epic that was Camper Jam to an informal vintage VW meet in a small German town, and also a look at OCTO, the biggest bus show in the USA, held on a parking lot and over by lunchtime! Travel stays in North America for a tour round Vancouver Island in a Bay Westy. All this plus how to deal with minor chassis corrosion, this month in the workshop and the Bus Doctor to help you keep your bus running sweet. In the shops now!
