whilst we get to chat about the mag with some of you at shows, we’d like to give you all chance to tell us how you think we can improve the magazine. What do you like? Is there anything you’d like to see more or less of? Are there things we don’t cover you’d like to see? All you have to do is go to www.volkswagencamper.co.uk/survey and fill in the online form. It will only take five minutes of your time and five entrants will be chosen at random to win a special prize each! I look forwards to reading your views and thoughts.

Recently I had the treat of having a brand new T6 on loan for a week. Not just any T6, but the flagship Generation 6 Caravelle with its striking appearance and paint job that pays homage to the old Samba Microbus. The T6’s two tone paint may not be everyone’s taste, and it’s not really a stealth mode vehicle, but such has been its impact that the T6 California now comes with two tone paint options (six different combinations) and a colour coded roof canvas! Plus I am starting to see the old Microbus two tone paint scheme on new demo T6’s from convertors and on T5 campers at shows! The retro look is back!

VW Camper and Commercial is the magazine’s title and we certainly cover that spectrum this issue!  A 1957 double door delivery van mixes modern performance modifications and retro vintage styling to make this one of the coolest and classiest custom commercials we have featured; sticking with the double door theme we also have a classic T4 Caravelle that retains its original people carrier purpose and original colour and fittings. Then we have not one but two custom Double Cab models – a T3 Doka with a Ford Cologne V6 engine and a 1976 Bay Doka with full on Hot Rod flame paintwork. Finally we have two campers– a 1962 fully restored Brazilian Kombi and a 1971 former Dormobile, both giving their owners a whole new lifestyle and freedom.

Continuing the ‘good things come in twos’ motif we check out two very different types of show. From the vibe on social media Camper Calling was really enjoyed by all who came; expect this event to grow! The lakeside venue was stunning, music filled the air and there were also some very nice buses to look at!!

In contrast Lavenham is a proper old school vintage VW show, where stock is king and the cars are the stars. Seeing vintage VWs in a gorgeous and historic market town setting is a unique opportunity to see and enjoy living history and admire some of the finest original examples of old VWs around.

Nights are drawing in, the show season is over…winter is coming. But that does not mean hibernation.
